While Covid-19 still is taking over our world right now, I have noticed what keeps America busy normally. When Covid-19 started getting worse people were starting to get concerned about what was going to happen with sports, Olympics and traveling. Well with that being said now we already know that the Olympics got postponed and there was no traveling at the start of April. On the other hand everyone was shocked and very upset in the basketball world. The NCAA tournament was canceled due to corona. I personally heard from peers around me say they would be fine as long as they had sports to watch, well that's out the window. This got me thinking about what effect do the fans have while the players are in the game. According to Psychology Educator’s article fans can break a professional player under pressure. That's why people say being at home is such an advantage because not only is the team comfortable in their own gym or field but the support is going to be so much more at a home game. When I was in grade school I played almost every sport you could imagine at one time. My main sport I played for most of my life was volleyball. As a kid I loved seeing the fans when I was playing a volleyball game. Not only was it fun to play the game I love in front of my friends and family, but when there were a lot of people I felt like I had a lot of support from people. In my freshman year I remember my volleyball team had to verse one of our rivals. Everyone on my team had practiced so hard for this match and we ended up losing. Then comes tournament time and we had to play them again. Only this time was different, it was at our home court and a bunch of people came to see the game and we won. The support and cheering from the fans that night really helped my team not only have a lot of energy but also kept us motivated to not only win for ourselves but for everyone who came.

As a little kid people asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. Unlike other kids I always knew what I wanted to be when I was older, a nurse. Even though I don't have siblings I have a ton of cousins, which meant I got to hold babies at a young age. I also started working at the YMCA and got a job in the day care center. Those things sparked my love for kids. Another big thing was I took an interest in how surgeries were done and how our bodies can heal very fast. Nursing just made sense. As I had some surgeries for cosmetic reasons I saw how nice and comforting my nurses were and how they made me feel. I wanted to make other kids feel safe and relaxed when they were going to go into surgeries or just getting a check up. Now the big question was how was I going to achieve this goal and what kind of nurse did I want to be. Well obviously I want to go to college to get my degree. Also I am so happy that I got an opportunity to do an internship hopefully at a hospital next year for my senior year. The next thing is what kind of nurse I wanted to be. I for sure wanted to be with kids so I hope in my future to be a pediatric nurse but things could change. Another thing was I didn't want to ignore my interest in surgeries. I know in college you can specialize in different things. I would love to specialize in surgeries. The goal is to be a pediatric nurse who specializes in surgeries so I can help prepare the patient and also help the doctor in surgeries. I know a lot of people know what nurses do but here are some things so people might not know or look over about the job in my opinion. The first thing I think people don't always realize nursing isn’t just a female job. Some may think that nurses should be females because of the caring and compassionate job that nurses have. Male nurses aren't as popular but one of the good things about male nurses is they are stronger and that is good especially when a patient may be too weak to walk and the nurse has to pick them up. Another thing people overlook is that the nurses schedule all the appointments for the doctor. If we didn't have nurses to schedule the appointments, the doctor would have no idea who his patients were for that day. That also ties in this next point which is there is another set of eyes on a patient. For example, if a kid is having a check up and the nurse is watching the doctor examine the patient and he/she notices something unusual on the patient she can point that out to the doctor right away. Also nurses usually take notes during the check up, just in case the patient has another doctor the next time he/she comes in or the doctor forgot to mark down in the papers. The last and biggest thing that I think is very important is that doctors aren’t the only ones that save lives. Nurses will do whatever they can to save a person until a doctor can take over or they can get more help from others. If you want to know some other things go to 5 things people don’t know about nurses. Also if you want to know what nurses do. You can go to what do nurses really do?
A big conversations in schools today is if schools should allow electronics in school. Of course there are both pros and cons. Starting with the pros. Devices in the classroom provides teachers with an opportunity to have a different way of teaching and grow with their students. Also children can be exposed to a world of creative ideas outside of their bubble. Not only are iPads and computers in the debate in school. Cell phones are what most teachers don’t like especially since phones are a distraction in teenagers. The benefits in having phones in school is that it provides another source of safety. For example disasters are unavoidable and they always distrust our daily activities, but with phones the students will be able to contact their parents. Leading into the cons. Not only are electronics distracting and will lead the students minds wanding off of the teachers teaching. The most obvious reason electronics shouldn’t be allowed in schools is cheating. The students will eventually rely to much on the internet and won’t use their brain to solve problems. Even though electronics are used in schools for educational purposes, people can still have social media and can get alerts through out class. Everyone knows that in high school kids can be very mean. If a student gets a text on their phone that wasn’t so nice, it could be a form of cyberbullying. Not only will this get into the students mind for the rest of the day, but it could impact the student worth ethic for the day. This blog that i made is mainly for school. As a teenager and a high school student, I personally think that electronics should not be in schools. I know from personal experiences that I too get distracted and it is not worth the time in school that I have missed an assignment given out and have been confused later. I also think that without electronics schools can go back to having pen and paper for homework assignments. I know that for one staring at a screen is not good for your eyes and can reduce blinking which is not healthy. In my high school everyone is on their phones in the hallways. You don’t see people socializing without an electronic in the conversation ever. In my opinion this is teaching people not to have independence or how to socialize without and electronic. I personally believe that if schools reduce the time with electronics in the classroom, kids would have not only a healthier mind but will succeed more in class without the distractions.
This past weekend, my high school choir went on a retreat. The choir is made up of 74 people which is a lot of people to get to know, especially in my case since this was my first year within the advanced choir. The retreat was all about team bond. Going into this I felt very overwhelmed. Even though I knew almost everyone, they all knew what to expect and already made personal connections with a lot of the others. I had my mind set on learning everyone’s name and wanted to get to know certain people better. If I’m being honest I accomplished my goals but I learned a lot about others that I didn’t plan on. I got closer to God and that was very shocking since I didn’t focus on my faith to much. I’ve heard people say that sports teams are like families since you need to count on others to make up a team and get things done together. The same thing goes with the theatre arts. Choir is where I could be myself and it was truly refreshing. At the retreat there was one game that really opened my eyes and made me think twice about how this is impacting my life. The game started out with everyone sitting in a circle with their backs facing the center. Groups would go into the circle and our teacher would say “tap someone on the shoulder who makes you happy”. Feeling the taps on my shoulder made me wonder who’s tapping my shoulder and how happy that made me feel. Yes, it is supposed to be anonymous but it was so hard not to turn around. At the end there was no dry eye in the room. You could tell that everyone felt so connect with each other and it was truly special to look around and see how much we have impacted each other. When we all got to stand up and hug each other, that’s the moment when I realized I am apart of something very special and I shouldn’t take this group for granted.
Growing up being an only child had good and bad qualities. Once faced with the opportunity to have a younger sibling for three weeks there was no doubt in my mind that I wouldn’t want to take this opportunity. This program was called the Spanish exchange program. It was for students to have a chance to not only meet people from Spain but get exposed to Spainish culture. When the exchange kids arrived it was surreal. I have been waiting for four months to meet my exchange student and that moment was right in front of me. The first week was awkward at first since we didn’t know each other. After a while of hanging out 24/7 it felt like we were as close as normal siblings. Having an exchange student living with my family made me realize how crazy this program was. We get paired up with a person, talk for four months over social media and then they live with us for three weeks. During their stay we did everything American as possible. That included have traditional family barbecue’s and fourth of July picnics and of course normal teen activities. The main goal for them was to get more comfortable in using English more fluently. There was certainly a language barrier as most americans are not fluent in spanish. I can definitely say by the end of these three weeks not only did everyone improve on learning english and spanish, but everyone made new friends that they would never forget. When the three weeks were up, it was very hard to say goodbye to my spanish brother and everyone else that came with him. Even though I will see him in six months it will still be the memories that we made that will still be in my head that will be hard to not miss. Coming home that evening was very different, I didn’t have anyone to hang out with when I was doing my homework or could randomly have a dance party with. Overall I am so thankful to have been given this opportunity. I would encourage others to do things out of their comfort zone since you never know what experiences you will have.
